1985 Mercury Black Max 150 V6 Water Pump and Base unit

I need to replace my water pump and the base unit as well. My motor s/n A138750. The number for the water pump kit is 46-96148A8, and the number for the base unit is 46-M0077147. I'm trying to find both of them together but every time I find one the base unit number is different. Is there a different number for it that will work for me?

is your gearcase a pre-load?.. what is tha dia. of tha base? should be one of these: 2 1/4" or 2 3/8"

Hey Dukedog, Not sure what you mean by per-load. I'll have to check it out in the morning.

pre-load will have a little pin sticking out tha top of tha drive shaft...

if your base measures 2 1/4" (2.245") kit will be # 96148A8...
if it measures 2 11/32" close ta 3/8" (2.350") it will be kit # 42579A4

Yeah it's pre-loaded. Are you talking about measuring the part of the base that has the oil seals in it that goes down over the bearings around the shaft? If so it is 2.259.

any that age are if original gearcase.. those two listed are tha only ones made for for tha 2.0, 2.4, 2.5 production V6 merc..
