I'm new here

My Name is Joe

I'm trying to help out a friend. I know very little about boats but im a car mechanic by trade. The issue my friend has is his Mercruiser 188 leaks coolant out of the lower unit water intake ports. (at least I think that's what there called). its where you put the muffs on to run the motor outside the water. It leaks whether its running or not. It will empty out the reservoir. I was originally thinking the heat exchanger but when I called our local marina I was told those very rarely go bad and I should try going to a forum and ask. So here I am

To exit the drive it has to start at the heat exchanger so remove a endcap and see if green drips out ,next
where the riser is bolted to the manifold . The gasket may have failed where the riser bolts to the manifold
motor is commonly called a 470 or 488
