Does anyone know if the mercruiser 165 and 190 engines run at the same rpm range ? I'm interested in buying a 1985 SeaRay 270 Sundancer and was told the one engine was replaced with a 165. the other engine is the orginal 190 engine. My question is can these engines operate together without any problems? IE: rpm range, WOT ETC... Looked at a 1982 cruiser 26' today had 485- 4 cylinders are they the problems as the 470 engines

Thanks

here's a search of the mercruiser 470 version engine here. http://forums.iboats.com/search.php?searchid=3301736

you should read a few of them prior to getting that rig.

or here's some more info on them.. http://www.sterndrives.com/470information/470coolantleakrepair.html

armed with some of that info. myself. i avoided any version of that engine..... i've no personal experince with them. but i can read. and there seems to me to be better options for a engine package than them. someone else will have to let ya in on how a different hp engine on a twin engine boat will behave.

The 470's are not the favorite engine in any boat. The 165 4 cyl engine is the same as the 190 except for the carb. The 190 has a Qjet 4bbl, while the 165 has a 2bbl Mercarb. They will act different.
Fact is, with all the know problems with 470 sytle engine, if you are not a mechanic and have the ability to deal with the problems yourself, you best move on down the line. They make good torque, and get antifreeze in the oil, they get great gas milage but have problems with the "Wanna be" outboard charging system that is now mostly NLA for parts. But the parts ther are EXPENSIVE.
That boat has a 165 hp engine on one side and a 190 hp engine on the other. How could you expect therm to act the same? That just doesn't even make sense to me.
