i replaced the starter and the teeth on the gear doesnt always line up with the flywheel. the old starter the gear on the starter was always in gear with flywheel, but the new starter its under the flywheel, sumtimes when i try to start it doesnt go in gear, but when it does it makes a grind noise

a noise coming from the new starter like its overloading.

i really think now my motor is locking up.

how smooth should the flywheel turn and how much force does it take to turn a inline 6.

i asked this before but didnt get a good enough answer.

its pretty hard for me to turn the flywheel and it seems to get stuck in each cycle. about a quater of a turn on the fly it gets stuck till i give it alil more force to turn it another 1/4 or 1/8.

plz help

Sounds like you may have gotten the wrong starter. Perhaps the bendix shaft is shorter.

Bump,

so i should buy a new starter?

when i try to crank 1/2 the time the starter gear goes in place, but when its in place and trys to turn i hear the starter clicking or trying to wine.

anyone it seems like the engine is locked up, it turns by hand but with alot of force.

Remove your spark plugs and see what happens.

I know automotive starters used to need a shim to allow the bendix to engage without being in a bind. Just a thought.
