1985 merc help plz

i have a 1985 merc.long shaft outboard need to know where the water impeler is? and how bad is it to replace myself. plz let me know as soon as posible doing the job this week...thx

It's in the lower unit. You need to drop the lower unit. Its driven by the drive shaft. Don't get your undies in a bunch, but if you had to ask where it is, you should probably purchase a service manual when you by the pump/impeller. Your local library may have one you can check out if you don't want to buy one.
