help....this makes no sence motor still hesatates and dies while accelerating idles fine replace all fuel pump gasket's cleaned all 3 carbs {nothing to clean they where fine)had fishing partner with me so tryed some tests.started to accerate till motor started to bog out hit electric choke(merc also calls enrichner solenoid)died flooded out.same test only had fishing partner pump primer bulb took right off? did this three time to verify not a fluke.this makes no sense to me!please anyone help how about you Clams any ideas?bulb stay hard all the time.

If it dies when you press the choke then it is not a fuel problem. This is an assumption as I had a similar problem that was a fuel issue. When I pressed the choke the engine picked up. I am no mechanic but what I think this means is when you are starved for fuel there is more air than fuel. When you press the choke you allow less air and more fuel, thus if your engine starts to die press the choke to restrict air flow. If the engine picks up you have a fuel problem if engine continues to die some other problem.

Like I said I am no mechanic and somehow I overlooked your pump bubble test. If you have them I would replace the motor-side fuel connector and turn fuel connector. Because my other thought is if you use all of the fuel out of the carbs during acceleration and your fuel is restricted because of those connectors then pushing the choke will have no effect on an engine without any fuel. When you pump the bubble it forces fuel through the connecter to the carbs. Actually lets backup. I would look at everything before the engine tank, hoses, connectors and bubbles.

My 1st thought is that the fuel pump might be dying, or that the idle needles are set too lean.

Search this forum for my timing and synch post too and make sure that's all OK.

The fuel connectorsare easy to test, put your finger over the side of the fuel line where it goes into the pump and squeeze the ball. If fuel leaks at the connector, replace at least the outer 1/2 (that has the O-rings. Remember the pump sucks the fuel up, an air leak at the connector can starve it.]

All that said... I don't think it's the connector at 1st thought.

-W

Check your float level in the carbs. Make sure your electrical is correct if this is an electrical fuel pump. If it's mechanical make sure any rods or pieces that make the fuel pump work are good. Last, check for blocked up lines or fuel connectors. If you have a fuel filter or water seperator, replace that. Your carbs are starving out of fuel which is why your dying. Also, I noticed you replaced fuel pump gaskets, have you replaced the fuel pump? If you have an inline laying around try that, just make sure you regulate the pressure. If you have access to a fuel pump test kit, check fuel pressure. Advance sells a gauge for less than twenty bucks. You'll be able to test up to the fuel pump at least to see if it's receiving fuel at all.
