1985 Johnson 25: I don't see any zincs

Guys,

My lower unit is pretty well pitted up. I want to prime and paint it but first I need to address the corrosion. I don't see any zincs. An on-line parts diagram shows the zinc kit at a mystery box, doesn't show where they actually go. Anyone know where they would be?

Thanks,
Byron

Interesting. Mine doesn't have that zinc. In fact, it doesn't have the holes for the zinc. In fact, this engine looks very different from my 1985 Johnson lower unit. Serial on the tag affixed to the motor clamp reads J25TELCIM. Huh, I guess it's a 1981, not an 85. My mistake.

So I used your link to look for the parts explosion of a 1981 25 hp and no zinc is listed. Shall I assume there was no anode on this motor? That would help explain the condition of the lower. Maybe I'll drill and install the part number you referenced. Any old zinc will do.

You can one if you want, just drill a couple of holes in the same spot as the 1985 engine.
