I have found that the engine wiring for this motor is specific to 1985 only. Does anyone have a color coded engine diagram for this specific motor? I have a bunch of manuals that cover these years, but I don't think that any of them matches what I have. The wiring harness in this motor is obviously 37 years old and the wiring insulation is brittle and faded to the point that I want to make absolutely sure that I get the correct connections. I found two or three wires that were broken at the exit of the red plug, that was just making connection. I was doing a little work checking out the motor and had to move the plug. When I put things back together, I had absolutely nothing. Checked the fuse and it was blown. Inspected the "hard bend" at the red plugs wire exit and found two wires completely worn off and enough of a mess to potentially short everything out.
I have purchased a replacement engine Harness from CDI (413-3590) but because it is not the original "Big Red" plug, there seems to be some extra pins in it the the Big Red plug doesn't .
Currently I am under the weather and haven't been able to get out there and see if I could hand trace and match the existing wires to the new Harness. My fear is that I don't to end up burning up the Power Pack, Rectifier, or something else expensive!

something here may help... or close enough depending on the issue to solve
(see 1984 V4s)
Crosbyman, thank you so much for the quick comeback. I want you to know that I have accessed this site and dismissed it because it didn't not show a listing for the Johnson 120 or 140 Hp Motor under the 4 cy 1985 motors, only the 90 & 115 HP motors.
However, I have decided to look deeper into the 90-115 models as they are specific also to the 1985 models.
Thank you again.

I believe the wiring should be the same.

I agagree they are not exactly 1985 /140s .... yet I suspect they would have lots of similarities and you can probably hook up most of the wiring.
