I have a 1985 19' Bayliner Capri with a 1985 125Hp Force outbourd on it. I am the second owner of the boat and it is in excellent condition. My problem is the motor seems to smoke alot, especially when I'm at the dock. Embarassing!! I've tried playing with the fuel mixture (leaner) and different (better) types of oil, but it still smokes. I'm seriously thinking of putting a newer oil injected 2 stroke or 4 stroke on her, but the 125 runs flawlessly. It has plenty of power, top speed of 43 to 45, always starts right up and has never left me stranded (well there was that time that I forget to put gas in it ). As you can see it has been an excellent performer for me and it's easy to maintain myself. Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks

Check your fuel recirculation lines and valves. When at an idle or low speeds, fuel tends to puddle up in the motor. If the fuel recirculation system is not working correctly, you'll get more than normal amount of smoke, most noticeable at idle.

+1 Had the same problem. You'll be very pleased with the results.

When you say "values", do you mean recirculation values?
Also I was reading the forums and read that someone was having an issue with fuel spilling out of the carbs when the motor is tilled up. I have this same situation too. Is it normal for fuel to spill out like this?

Yes recirculation valves. They get gummed up with gunk. A little carburetor cleaner does wonders. Fuel leaking from the carbs when you tilt the motor all the way up is normal.

Thanks, I'll clean it out tonight and see if it helps.

Ok, which lines are the recirculation lines? are they these hoses in the picture? Including the short one that looks white in the picture? Do I take the values off the engine to clean them?

Yes, the smaller diameter hoses in close to the engine. What i did was remove them and shot carb cleaner into the fittings still attached to the engine. Squirted until the gunk quit coming out. Hoses also. Replace them if they're brittle or disintegrating. A catch rag will help control the mess.

I'm going to replace the fuel lines as they are stiff and I destroyed the short one trying to remove it. I went to NAPA, but the lines from the motor are an odd size. I ended up getting 1/4 line as it was the closest match. Will this be ok?

Should be fine as long as the barbs don't split the ends.

I suggest running pennzoil semi syn in the force motors. I had great luck with it at 50to1. If your 2stroke is not smoking I would be more worried.
