Have a 1985 Evinrude 150, idles good but when i put it in gear and start to come up on a place it has a hesitation just a couple around 2500-3000 rpms then gets up to speed and runs smooth as silk. Do not thinks its a fuel issue. Messed with the port power back looked like it had a bad ground fixed ground . I tried to run it again and it came out of the hole better, still had a hesitation. No hesitation at full throttle and idle is perfect. any ideas? I have seen improvements when messing with power pack and seen declines when messing with the power pack.

You can verify the spark on the engine with an inductive timing light. Remove the cowl and have a buddy drive the boat. Check each plugwire. The flashes in the timing light gun will show misfires, weak firing, no fires-etc. If the spark check out ok- it's a fuel issue. You may have some debris in one of the mid-jets inside the carb.

I have the same motor with kind of the same issue but worse. Mine runs great out of the water but as soon as i put it in the water and put a load on the engine it will run good at low RPM's but anything above half throttle or high RPM's it will bog down and want to stall. All my spark is fine and im thinking it is the vro pump going bad. It started out as a small issue like yours but got worse every time i took it out. I tried other aproches first like having the carbs cleaned and rebuilt and change the fuel lines that looked cracked and worn but its still doing it and getting worse every time so im about to buy a new VRO pump and see how it goes. If it fixes the issue ill let you know.
