Okay,,,,, I know its a Bayliner.

Have the chance to pick up this boat. Seems to be in very good overall condition, solid floor, solid transom, dry cuddy. Comes with full Sunbrella camper canvas, galvanized Escort trailer, marine band, fishfinder, upgraded 2 years ago to a 5.7 from a 5.0. OMC Stringer outdrive, believe its an 800.

The guy will take 3500.00. Besides the obviuos, anything I should know problomatic with this particular boat? Any and all opinions welcome, especially from owners of comparable bayliners.

It is the OMC Stringer that you should try and stay away from

The outdrive is a concern to me as well, but it doesn't leak, has had regular service, and shifts well. My current boat has an OMC Cobra outdrive. I am aware of the problems with OMC (parts, service), but this one looks and acts like its in good shape. No PT of course. Owner says the boat planes easily and tops out at about 35 mph.

Well, that's not a very heavy boat for a 350 to max out at 35 mph! Something's wrong there. Water logged boat or underperforming engine or something.

I doubt it planes easily either if it tops out at 35 - and top speed is usually given out as top speed PERIOD - with one person and no gear. How does it go with a crew aboard and a full tank?

IF it came with a 5.0L and a newer 5.7 can only hit 35 mph.........what's up?

Test ride it? I'll bet not. That's a slug, IMO.

I have the same year in a 1950 model with a 2.3 Volvo4.
It tops at about 37mph, and I think there's a little more I haven't
pushed it to. You have maybe twice the engine size, and 2 more feet length
of boat, so I think you should get more performance than 35mph.

As for the pros and cons, the boat is a big pro, great cruisability and
features. The cuddy is nice. The Volvo4 is also a big pro, with surprising
power and great gas mileage. The top is great, and if you have the side,
you have a completely enclosed top.

I can't say anything about the OMC part you're looking at, never had one.

It might not be propped right, depends on if he changed it or not.
Have receipts for the 5.7 swap? Record of maintaining the out drive?

Bayliner isn't the best of boats, it'd be OK if well kept and the price certainly seems like it's a lot of boat for the $$$.

Different Gear ratios in the 5.0l vs the 5.7l . if the drive was not changed it may always be a slug.

Sorry, fellas, my mistake. CRUISES at 35, 3500 RPM, according to PO. Top speed is around 45.

If you are not worried about the OMC then I say go for it. To me, that on itself will be a show stopper...

Still seems a little slow. My friend has a 20 foot Bayliner cuddy with the chevy 4.3 V6 and mercruiser outdrive. He gets 50 top speed. I would expect a 5.7 to give exhilarating performance.

So Bayliner isn't leading the industry standards. Mine was free and this is my first boat plus I live in Colorado. Not the most boat friendly state. So to my questions:

The boot on the U-drive for the Penta failed and that is what took it off the water. I have the old parts however my new concern is the bottom of the out drive has a cracked collar near the prop housing.
Looks as if it was dammaged in tow. Next is the interior and floor is shot. Motor runs I am told. About how much am I in for and I need alot of advice. I will take some pics to explain myself but this is a new site for me may have to figure that out too.
