1985 1989 85 force compatability ????

Hello all!! I have a 1989 vip with a 1989 85 hp force outboard. I lost compression on one of my cyliinders so i purchased another 85 hp force but it is older. the powerhead is white on the older one...

well i put the older power head on my boat, hooked everything up and boat was back on the water running fine.. now i am having issuses with a lack of power.. it seems like i am only getting about half power..

I have taken the carbs off and cleaned and inspected them. I have also changed out the entire electrical sytem (trigger, stator, coils, cdis, etc) and i still have the same problem..

Now i am noticing that with the boat hooked up to the water hose, giving it about 3/4 throttle that gas seems to be coming out of the carbs.. Like it is not using the fuel or there is excessive fuel being deliverd..

I have since then purchased another 85 hp force that is black like my original motor and tried swapping out the electrical again.. still having same problem. which leads me to believe tha i am having fuel issuses.. I would think that with three different motors i could make one work.. you would think!!

If anyone has some info on n e of these problems i would greatly appreciate it.. As sonn as i get this thing running i will be getting rid of all of the extra parts i have if anyone might b interested..

Fill out the profile.Someone might be close enough to help.All those motors are basically the same.
Have you done a compression/spark test on all the motors?
Check the fuel pump and diaphram. Look at the reeds too.
Gas comming from the carb is usually the float/needle not set right.J
