1985 15hp Johnson no telltale flow @ low idle

I have replaced the impeller because the telltale was trickling. Now when it runs I only get flow from the telltale at high idle. When I throttle it down the flow stops. Any ideas before I venture to the gromment under the powerhead?

pull the hose. and wash it out. run weed eater string or the like thru it. kritters like to stop them up.

I assume you already checked for blockage in the pisser and components to it.What i have posted before regarding the grommet,is,get a wire coat hanger an cut a long length of wire from it.Mash one end with a hammer to make a cutting blade,you can sharpen it a bit with a file,put the other in a drill chuck,preferably a cordless,you dont want too much power,and ream out the collapsed grommet by going up the water tube.I had it work many times.

Tashasdaddy - I will check the lines this evening and see if anything comes out.

Mikesea - Your approach is quite creative. Will I have any trouble with gromment shreds clogging the cooling system downstream?

Ive expeirenced a similiar problem like this with a friends boat. And we did close to the same by reaming out the grommet. And we did not have any prolems with the debree, (the little that was left) as your telltale usually is the smallest line it will pass through and if you are going to have a problem it will probly lie within the fitting that the telltale exits at the rear corner. which is easily unclogged.

I've Replaced the Thermostat , Checked the Water Pump ( its seems to be Working ok ) Cleaned out around the inside of the Water jacket & inside around the Head i Don't know what else to try . What i need is a Diagram of How & where the Water runs , Most Manuals have some form of Diagram for that but not Mine. I did stick a Hose up to the Watertube & it seems that the water is getting to the head but there just Isn't Enough Water coming out of it . No Problem with the water getting into it , Its coming out of thats the Problem
