1985 140 w/ 1992 115 controls

i am looking at buying a refurbished 1985 johnson 140 to replace my blown up 1992 evinrude115. i have all the controls, oil reservoir, etc from the 115. will the controls from the 115 work with the 1985 140?

if you have the wiring assembly that has the big round red plug, then all should be OK, if you have the wiring that has seperate plugs at the motor end then it is different, but I do believe there is an adapter, the gear and throttle cables/control will be fine. But from memery, the '92 should have the red plug (as the '85 will)

Should be OK on wiring/cables but make sure that the 140 has the latest VRO/OMS pump as if it has the original it is the design I style that has NO warning features or wiring. This old it likely to have been bypassed and running premix.

You should be fine with the control box. It changed in 1996.
