Hi folks,

I have an 85 115hp inline 6 that doesn't like to idle. It runs great above 1500rpm and loves WOT, but when I bring it back down to idle...docking or trolling it tends to load up and stall, mostly pretty quickly but sometimes after a minute or two. The brass screw plugs on the bottom 2 of the 3 carbs leak too. What do you think..is it rebuild time? or is the diagnosis worse?..I'm "somewhat" technically inclined, very new to the marine 2 stroke engine world..(because I own it of course)..I'm used to doing things myself but don't want to learn the hard way and end up leaning out the motor and lets just say screwing it up. So if the majority suggests I give it to an expert I will!..Is it difficult to rebuild these carbs??

Carb rebuild on those is pretty easy.I have never done one before and rebuilt my 85 115hp inline 6 earlier with no problems.

same here, very easy.

rebuild your carbs, and your fuel pump too, and then when all is back together, set your idle screws at 1 1/2 turns out. after this is done, run a can of decarb through your motor.
