I have a couple of questions regarding this motor. I have 16.5 ft monark and at full throttle motor speaks out at 5000 rpm at about 30-35 mph does seem about right for speed and max rpm? It seems that i shopuld be able to get more speed out of it with a small boat.

2nd question- I recently incountered on my last trip that the boat would not get up on plane and top out full throttle at 3000 rpm. I found out it was only running on three cylinders. I replaced the coil and that did not fix it. what could it be maybe?

Thanks for the help

First, check the compression. Should be in the 100+ psi range and even on all cylinders.

Second, with the s/plugs out, check the spark. It should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightening like flame on all cylinders.

If the above checks out okay, the usual problem is fouled carburetors. Let us know what you find.
