I recently read that the solenoid and starter for the aq125 volvo penta is 1 piece and can not be replaced seperately. Is this true?

Also, can someone please recommend a place to purchase either one or both of these items relatively inexpensively.

Thanks!

Post a picture of your starter, and a link to where you read that information from.

I replaced my starter for around $80 at an auto part. I referenced a 1983 Volvo 2.1 b.

Not a good idea nic. Automotive starters are not "explosion proof" and are also not allowed in boats according to the coastguard.

Using automotive electronics in a boat (especially if the boat is a carbureted one like the aq125) is not only unsafe it is illegal in most places because it creates a dangerous environment around you.

You can purchase a marine version of said starter for your 4 cylinder engine at db electrical for under 100 dollars even to 82 dollars.

thats dbelectrical google them. than go to starters, marine, volvo penta, and click 4 cylinder engine (make sure you dont click 4 cylinder diesel).
there you will have a few choices. shipping is free and and they warranty up to 1 year.
Also the 82 dollar one for your particular engine for some reason states Automotive car choices for the Application Compatibility chart... so i would go with the 90 dollar one. just advice take is as you will :)

I bought the $80 auto starter at the parts store and took apart both the old one and the new one to reuse the ignition protection mods. It's not much different at all. The main difference is there's one metal shield that isolates the internals of the motor from the outside. Everything else was pretty much identical. Sealed everything up with silicone and I was good to go.

However I would go with the DB electrical starter. If I had known about that I would have bought from them.
