I am going to change engine and drive oil this weekend and would like to switch to synthetic. The manual recommends the same oil for the engine and the drive;10w/40.I haven't seen 10/40 but am considering Mobil 1 15W/50 for both.Does mobil make a synthetic 30 wheight I could put in the drive?Iv'e searched previous threads but it only confused me.Whats a good way to go?Thanks to all who care to reply to yet another oil question.

No reason to go hi-tech on a lo-tech engine, but if it makes you feel good, go for it...... on the engine.
Stick with straight 30W oil in the drive.

Thanks for the quik reply Don S,you da man.By straight 30W, I I take that to mean non-synth,correct? It is sometimes a little difficult to get the shifter to click into neutral. From reading some past threads I thought a change in oil might help this.I have straight 30 in there now as recommended by the Volvo service shop near the boat launch. Thanks as always.I'm a bit of a newbie but I love to learn, hence all the questions.

If there is a problem shifting, it could be a cable problem, or water in the drive, or the shifter mechanism has worn out.
But going to synthetic oil wouldn't be a cure, if it did anything, it would only be temporary and would be masking the real problem.

For what its worth, I run straight 40wt in my motor and 280....done the "this has gotta be better" and "snake oil" route, and all it does is waste time and money.

And I should add I cannot even feel or hear my 350, 5000lb boat go into forward....like velvet, and its a 1977 280 outdrive
