Hello.
I am doing some restoration work on the old girl and one of the things that needs redoing is the dog house (I guess I spent too much time in it). Anyway, when I bought this rig some years ago it did not have the original dog house on it,so I do not really know the proper measurements or material that it should be made of. Can any of you good people help me out just so the doghouse I will build does have the proper measurements and materials?
Thank you,
Cornelis.

As far as the measurements go does your Islander have the 4 cyl? For ideas check out Dozers Holiday build and his doghouse setup, it's super nice.

Lots of rebuilds including Dozers...

Thank you for your answer. Yes mine is the 3 liter I/O.
I do like this setup but it is more for show than for intensive Great Lakes salmon trolling. What I am looking for is something low slung that can take punishment such as being pushed and hit (things happen fighting kings in 4 foot waves) and stood on.

Trust me the dog house pictured above is built like a tank,5/8 plywood through out a couple people could dance on it.

Then spec it to stand up to those tasks. Best of my knowledge, no one's posted the details or pix of one built to withstand punishment.

Just don't go too small that it restricts airflow around the motor too much.

I would suggest then you put a piece of diamond plate or similar at the bottom for a kick panel to keep wood or vinyl from being ruined. You could go lighter ply and then encase the structure in plate or fiberglass it.

Thank you. Those are good ideas. Would you by any chance know the minimum clearance between the flame arrestor and the inside roof of the doghouse?

The factory doghouse on my 72 SS 120 the stud in the top of the Flame arrestor rubbed the top.

That is good news. I'll make sure to have one inch to give the material some room to flex, but is a lot closer than I expected and it will lower my doghouse considerably.
I tried to open the thread http://forums.iboats.com/forum/owner...ser-120/page55 ,but the link does not work for me.( Maybe my firewall is a bit too paranoid.)
