If its worth considering to you at 6K, then I guess it is worth 6K to you.....

Interior ad pix dont look that great on my cell, but enlarged I'd say it looks to be in exceptional shape.

Water ready is also worth a great deal, getting to use it the same day you drag it home...

Price a new 16ft SC and it's a bargain at 6K :becky:

Good luck.

Talk me out of this tinny!

Again, I have changed my mind on what I want. I sold my new Starcraft and bought an old tinny fishing boat. Now I have sold that because I want an even older Starcraft tinny. I am a big fan of older aluminum Starcrafts and this one is one owner and needs nothing. Its a northern boat and has seen little use.
The price for northern Canada is not bad but I have no idea what reliability to expect out of the Johnson 90.

It does to me too.
I know he will take $500 off but still. The $3500 boats that need a deck and upholstery are around.

Holly Smoke that price seems high. I realize prices vary from region to region, but I only paid, $800.00 for our 81 SS 160 wiith a bad lower unit on the motor and it needing a new transom. After the I replaced the lower unit and redid the transom we're still only into her for about $1300.00 and are on our third season. They do make good all around boating platforms in my opinion. We fish, cruise, and do watersports with ours. She sports an original to her Chrysler 75hp and we can cruise at about 32 mph with 4 adults. If I had power trim I believe I could get even more speed out of her. She is rated at 90hp max.

You could buy a new 14 ft with new 25 4-stroke with new trailer cheaper and know everything is right...

Get compression readings on the 90 and check the lower end for bent shaft or bad bearings.

Spin the prop with the thing in neutral and you should see no wobble at the shaft center. The bearings shouldn't sound like they are full of sand. (If it doesn't pass that... run away)

Not in Canada though. You have to remember boats are about double here than what they sell for in the US. I sold my 1995 16ft tinny with a 40hp 2 stroke for $6000 a few days ago.
But you guys are doing a good job abut talking me out of it.

I also like project boats. But they start around $3500 here. This one needs nothing according to the owner.
But its a 4 hour drive to have a look.

Unfortunately for our Canadian brothers, the boat market in their neck of the woods is about 2x the pricing here in the states. Mostly because while we have 10,000 boats for sale in every state, Canada has about 10.

From the picks, it looks clean. Down here that would be a $2500 boat this time of year. Working backwards, while the price is a bit high, current conversion rates out it at 5k US.

If you love the boat, offer 4500 to 5000 CAD

That seems a bit high to me. Here in the MPLS area, there are probably 10-15 SC SS's for sale, most if not all less than 6500.
If you need that one, wait until fall and offer him 4,000 for it.

I'm in the Ottawa area and think that price is high, IMHO. Having said that a boat is what you want to pay for it and if it's in good condition and you have the cash then go for it.

I'm down in sw sasktchewan and that is little high for an originl SS. I have been reoing these boats for 5 years and sold an 84 SS with a new rebuilt 90 with two year wrranty. New trolling motor, complete new interior and convertable top for 6500.

Thanks for the input. I will offer 5K and leave it at that.
I don't think he will accept it but it is priced $1500 to much.

If you're in the market for a SC 16'r then it looks to be a really nice boat and that 90 will allow you to do water sports and it will haul you and a passenger at a decent speed. Price out a new 16' AL boat with a 90 and after you wake up on the floor you'll be happy to pay 1/4 the price for an oldie.

The only thing that concerns me about 30+ year old boats that are original is that everything in them is 30+ years old and won't be able to take being used for long before they start showing their age. Materials from over 30 years ago all start getting brittle from sun, heat, cold cycles and just plain old age.

I don't have much more to offer (since I am very new to boating and to Star Crafts) except a price comparison point.

I bought an '84 SS 160 last month here in New Hampshire (USA) in similar condition. It has been a two owner boat (now three), is in excellent condition, and came with everything needed to get a newbie started (trailer, cover, life preservers, paddles, safety gear, two fuel cans, etc., etc.). Also, like in Canada, basically it sees only a short season and the original owner apparently used it very little (1984-2010).

The differences would be that it has a 60HP Mercury with no power trim, and no fish finder. The trailer did have new tires and lights. So far the only issues are the bilge pump needed replacing, and the motor could use a tune-up. I paid $3400 USD.

The 160 SS you are considering.

hmm, I think the fact the OP has 30 more horse power and trim with all the fixings not sure if its the same. I will add your boat is a beauty and looks real sharp. Not sure if you will miss the 30 extra horse power but when you want to go some where or get off the lake it sure will come in handy.

Looks like it has a lot of nice canvas, and that is not cheap to come by. And probably why it is in such good condition. The last boat I bought I had to add a fairly significant amount of stuff in bimini and good cover, etc..
