I just got a 1984 mercury black max 150hp, serial 6532496. I have 2 questions. First question is I'm redoing head gaskets and divider plate gaskets. Where does the divider plate seal go? Does it go in the valley of divider plate? My reason for redoing gaskets is I can't get it to pee, no matter what. There are no blockages. I've replaced water pump, poppet valve, thermostats.2nd question could there be any other reason why it's not peeing? Its got good compression. I did notice wetness on the power head side of divider plate. Thanks

When you replaced the Water Pump, you did install the Key/Pin that ties the Impeller to the Driveshaft?

Some of those Merc V6 motors will not have a telltale, until the thermostats open. On a flusher, that may never happen.

Does water get discharged thru the prop and water grates above the antiventilation plate? If so, she is pumping.

Yes , water is coming out of prop as well as black goo. I'm guessing that is carbon or unburnt fuel. I unhooked tube from thermostats while it was running and no water seemed it was getting to the thermostats.

Also I'm not using water ears. I'm using a 100 gallon trough.

You should see if the cylinder head is getting warm enough (143*F) to cause thermostats to open. If it makes your hand uncomfortable, it should be warm enough.

Maybe poppit valve is sticking open? That could starve heads of water at low speed.
