1984 merc 115 hp fuel problem

I have a 1984 mercury 115hp outboard. Today at the lake the motor didn't want to start. After several attempts it finally turned over and was running but not up to normal. When out on the lake at WOT I was just turning 2200rpm. Thought at first it was just flooded a little and it would clear up but it never did. I did notice a gas film on the water after we stopped once and we used a very large amount of gas for such a short trip. We took the cover off the motor and it appears I have a leak after the fuel line enters the motor. What could be my problem and how hard of a fix is it?

Well, we would need to know the source of the leak. The first thing the fuel enters is the quick disconnect. It then goes to the fuel pump and then the carbs. Where is it leaking?

Just getting around to pulling the boat out of the water, from what I can tell and the info I get from the internet, it looks like a jet screw (?). While priming the bulb and while trying to start, gas just pours out of it. This is on the bottom carb and is located on the side. Is this a difficult repair or should someone a pay grade higher than me work on it? Also how much should a repair like the cost at a repair shop?

Much better if can post pics. Without pics only those intimately acquainted with yoir specific model will weigh in with some direction. With pic many more can help you because the general principles of a carburetor are all the same.

Let me guess, the fuel is leaking from a brass jet in the cover of the carb? That brass jet is likely the backdrag jet, and is supposed to only allow air to enter the carb. The carb is likely flooding and the float and/or inlet needle are likely bad. I would recommend replacement of both and an adjustment of the carb float.
