Just got my new manual, how about that guys, I listened, but can't find section that talks about a thermostat. I assume there is one in there someplace but just haven't found it yet. When changing the water pump out is it a good idea to check the thermostat(s). Where are they (it)located?

Also have a question about a lead that comes out of the top left corner of the head. Is this the temperature switch assembly and how would you test it? Looks like the head would have to be removed to remove it. When my impellar/pump quit supplying enough water to keep the engine happy I luckily heard the hot engine horn blowing in the control box but it was so faint I didn't realize what it was at first. The horn probably needs to be replaced but first wanted to make sure all the connections were in good order and the temp switch would be in line with the horn.

Another question. The rubber exhaust boot (that's what I call it) that seals the exhaust where it enters the lower unit seems to be in bad condition. Haven't been able to find the part, may be that I'm not calling it the right thing, on the internet. Anyone know the proper nomenclature and where I can find a replacement?

Jay....the t-stat is located at the bottom of the head behind the head cover.....that's the front plate on the head that's held on by 13 or 14 bolts. The t-stat is covered at the beginning of the power head section of the Service Manual.

Yes that is the temp sensor. To get it out you also have to remove the head cover. The sensor uses bimetal inside that closes at a preset temp. This makes up the ground side of the alarm horn and sets the horn off.

The parts list calls it an exhaust seal. PN 324937 at your local John/Rude dealer. 'Bout $4.75 or so.

What kind of alarm horn do you have? If it's the old style vibrating buzzer type, you probably should replace it with the newer tone type module. Requires some modification of the control box, drill a few holes, but is easy enough to do.

OBJ - Thanks for the info. think I will duck taking the head off since the switch seems to have been working. Will run continuity/resistance tests and just a good visiual on the wiring.

I'm sure that the horn is the vibrator type and it does need some help since I could barely hear it.

Although I live on the biggest man made lake in the South, Toledo Bend we are shy on repair/parts places although we do have a couple about 20-25 miles from me. Last time I needed some parts I had to go to both of them and they are opposit directions from me but the shop owners are real nice and gave some good advice. So I'll let my fingers do the walking to see who has most of the parts needed.

Thanks again, jayboy70
