1984 Johnson 4hp twin

Hi, Just bought a 1984 Johnson 4hp, looks in great condition but was stood in a garage for about 5 years. After stripping carb and spraying WD40 into cylinders engine now starts and runs nicely. Decided to change impeller but is frozen to driveshaft. Does impeller slide up or down off driveshaft. Also, while doing this, drive shaft pulled out of gearbox. When I pushed it back in, gearlube poured out of gear shift shaft hole. Is this normal? Have now flushed and refilled gearbox with new gearlube. Great site guys.<br /><br />HappyFisher

You should be working with a service manual.<br /> Dont know your motor but my guess is the impeller slides up off the shaft.<br /> If oil came out of the shift hole around the shift shaft there could be a bad seal.<br /> If the oil appeared ok (not milky) your seals are probably ok.
