I'm hoping this is a stupid question... but I need an answer before moving forward... I have the new gears and clutch dog installed.. After I torqued the bearing carrier bolts I noticed that it is nearly frozen.. I mean I can't turn the driveshaft at all... I loosened the carrier bolts a bit and then I can turn the driveshaft in fwd and the prop shaft turns.. I'm hoping it is supposed to be that tight and maybe it's good thing?? I torqued the carrier bolts to 11 lbs.. FSM said 10-12.. Just wanted an answer before finishing up w the water pump.. Thanks in advance!!

It possible the thrust bearing on reverse slipped and now crushed .It is pushing reverse into pinion and locking it up when tightening

Tightening of the driveshaft thrust bearing housing ? ----Or the propshaft bearing carrier ?

Both the bearing carrier andthrust bearing housing are tightened... 10-12 lbs... but it's tightening the bearing carrier that makes the shaft hard to turn....
yes shimming was checked by local shop...

SO, how hard should it be to turn the driveshaft???

I can shift it in all 3 positions... so hopefully that's an indication that nothing slipped on assembly and is wedged or ****-eyed on the shaft???

Without the waterpump installed you should be able to turn it with a light grip of your fingers on the driveshaft.----Best to get this correct as it can get expensive in a hurry.

Ok so is there anything you can think of?? Before bearing carrier went in, I could easily turn driveshaft and prop shaft. I verified order and placement of parts per diagram and FSM Seems like maybe the carrier is in too far and the bolts are applying pressure on the reverse gear.

This cutaway shows a gap btw snap rings and carrier mounting ring. My carrier did go in too far. It should go in about 5/8", just past the rings on the inside of the case, correct? Trying to get carrier bolts in again and check movement.

Seems like the bolts are threading through the mounting plate and making contact with the reverse gear.

same bolts... I get put them in finger tight and shaft turns easily but once I even start to tighten them, the shaft gets very hard to turn and then won't turn at all. Like the bolts are making contact with the gear

OK... I'll check that out... thanks for all the help... I hope "-----Good luck with the project " doesn't mean you're done helping.... lol Is there a ring on the inside of the case that the bearing housing butts up against? or does it actually seat on the snap rings?
