Just a quick question, probably pretty easy for you guys. I have a 1984 Evinrude 60 hp engine with VRO. Does my engine come with electronic choke? I have to push my key in when starting up cold. Should I push key in when starting after engine is warmed up? I keep flooding it and getting stuck on the lake, that was the only thing I could think of. I have no owners manual since it was bought used. Thanks in advance!!

Randy,What you are refering to is the electric primer button. When key is pushed in it energizes the fuel primer solenoid in the engine compartment and allows fuel to be injected past the carburetors into the intake port.If engine has been run recently before shutting off there is no need to reprime. If you do hit the prime button on first try and it doesn't start ,don't push it in on the following starting attempts and it should clear and start engine.

Thank you for your info, I was getting a wee bit frustrated at it. The previous owner of the boat told me that the lever on the side was the choke and you push in the key for every start. Once again thanks a bunch.

Randy,if you are refering to the red lever on the side of the primer solenoid,it is a manual means of letting fuel past the carburetors in the event that the electric solenoid is not working. This lever should be normally positioned "inline " with the body of the solenoid.

If the solenoid is working properly, with the key in the "on"position ,engine not running, you should hear a "click" when the key is pushed in.
