Ok, then why did not other years and models say operating range to the upper limits of 7000 rpm on the metal tag??? This is the question of why other 15 hp outboard tags never have said this. Yes, any motor can be adjusted to higher RPM until they blow up like many race engines like dragsters for example do. Operating range on many and most 15's listed on the metal tag only go to 6500 rpm. So is it possible that these models were built stronger to take higher rpm like race engines you mention are? Maybe for the small racing market up in the area of the country where OMC was. So per the brochure that 7000 rpm that was NEVER listed before on any 15 tag I have seen and I have seen dozens, must have a reason for being. I think it was the tuned exhaust that allowed for this and the higher RPM tag rating or they were just trying to impress the Japs and their rated at the prop HP, that came on the scene about this time as was greatly upsetting to OMC. So race engines go way up in hp/rpm like the 9000 rpm engine you mention. Don't know what that has to do with this? I don't know the rpm of the F1, but know that Honda had a sports car on the market here about 10 years ago that redlined at 10,000 rpm. Almost bought one.

I have never talked to any expert and have talked to a few, who even knew that this 7000 rpm tag existed. It must be part of the OMC mysterious conspiracy theory, that like many conspiracy theory's have more truth than many want to admit. Lol

I rest my case here.-----Do you know how much hp it takes to move a pick-up truck at 60 miles / hr on a level road ?-----A Doge RAM 5.7 is rated to be 345 hp.-----How much hp does it produce at 500 RPM idling ??

FYI and a little off-the-subject...F1 V-8 engines (2006-2013) were limited to 18,000 RPMs and the current-day V-6s are limited to 15,000 RPMs.

Yes I know that the older F1 engines ran to 18,000 RPM.------They limited the displacement so the engineers went to get power with RPM.-----Sort of like adding more people to the rope in a tug of war contest.---------I believe that 123 is having some boring days where he is.------Stirring the pot / prodding a bear ??------123 have you personally seen one of the 15A racing / hydroplane motors with the pointy lower unit.-----And have you seen / heard one perform on the race course.-----My parts supplier has one hanging on display !

Naw, raceone, I don't mess with that kids stuff! Used to go to the Unlimited Hydro races in Seattle years ago. Boy those 12 and 16 cylinder Allison aircraft engines were something to see and hear and it did not take high PRM to get them moving. FYI All it takes in a light car is 1 hp per MPH. So 60 hp for 60 MPH is the ticket, and many cars like VW will do it. Yes like morons we have 500 hp in a pick-up and then complain about global warming and the cost of gas.

Where I am? Do you mean the land of true freedom, (no, freedom is not on a piece of paper printed in 1776, it's in the land and the constitution originally said, Life, liberty and the pursuit of property, but some liberal back then changed it to the pursuit of happiness). Of course you must be tough to live in the North, and resourceful. Not many like that today.
