My first question is a simple one. To replace the floor in this particular boat, is it necessary to split the boat in half around the rub rail and lift the top off? That was required on a bass boat I did and I was just wondering what I'm getting into. The only thing I know for sure is that the damage will be more extensive than it looks.....

Thanks,
Brian

I expect that is a judgement you need to make yourself. If you can cut out the deck, with the cap on, it is best, as it will help support the hull.

Obviously you need to inspect the stringers after the deck is out, as well as replace any waterlogged foam floatation. Waterproof the new deck with at least one layer of 1.5 oz FG mat, saturated with polyester resin.

welcome aboard.

will depend on the boat construction that you can see and we cant.

if you can get to the whole floor, all the stringers, all the bulkheads and the transom without pulling the cap, then do so.

however I find it much easier on most boats to just make a cradle and pull the cap.

Thanks guys. I will tear into it. All I've done this far is peel back a small section of carpet. I was quite surprised to see that the deck is made of 7/16" wafer board. Is Conroy a cheap Glastron knockoff?

My guess when you keep digging, you will find that someone else has been in there

No boat builders ever used chip board

Actually, we bought the boat brand new in 83 and it's never had any structural work done on it. This is only my second rodeo, but I hope nobody stuck a band aids on it. I just hope the stringers and transom are good....
