I am considering the purchase of a 1984 Chris Craft Scorpion 168 (18ft.) with a Mercruiser I/O 140.

This is a one-owner boat and the owner has done all of the maintenance on the Mercruiser 140 original engine.

Is there anything about this engine (typical problems, etc.) that I should know? I'm sure there are some experts on this forum.

Thanks.
Chris

The 140s are good solid engines. There 'problems' are the same as all other I/Os... Make sure the engine and drive are serviced regularly (annually), use clean fresh fuel and good quality engine and drive oils.

I assume the boat is on a trailer... When storing, have the drive down and pointing straight... This preserves the rubbers in the gimbal housing. And flush fresh water through the cooling system at the end of the bays boating...

I have one of these and I just rebuilt the engine. It runs great now and for an older boat I think it's a pretty good boat. Lots of fun with it over the years. Wonder though if anyone has any idea what this boat weighs?

I have the exact same boat and I want to say it's around 1800 lbs.
