i have owned this motor since new. always ran perfect until stored without rinsing for 5 years. started in a tank on 1st pull, ran 3 or 4 minutes when water stopped and steam started to come out telltale. motor seized and again i put it away for 5 years or so. took it apart and cleaned all cooling passages, installed new t-stat, impeller, plugs, cleaned carb and tried to start with no luck. i have checked timing, valve adjustment, spark, and compression which seems low at 80lbs on top cylinder and 90lbs on bottom cylinder. also it seems harder to pull than i remember, maybe because im 10 years older now. i would love to have this motor running again. anyone know what the compression should be or any other things i should check?

I do'nt know what you want us to tell you.Since your compression numbers are that dismal, the next step is a leakdown test to find out where that leakage is occuring. This thing has been laid up for along time and that is seldom a good thing. This is a piece of machinery that needs to be used.

thank you for your reply. can you explain how to perform a leakdown test? while i had the head removed the motor appeared to be clean and rust free inside. the valve train and pistons and crank seemed to spin okay. other than the salt deposits in the cooling passages, it looked okay. is this motor worth rebuilding?
