I'm working on a 1984 35 hp Mercury outboard for a friend. Upon removing the carb for cleaning I discovered that the plunger assembly for the electric choke was broken off from the choke plate. After numerous searches for a new part I am unable to find any diagram for this engine that shows an electric choke. The serial number for this motor is 6628248. Can anyone please tell me where I can find a part number for a new plunger assembly so that I can order a new one. Thanks.

Got the new part and installed it. The thing I can't understand is how to put the choke plate spring on. I'm about to go nuts here because it makes no sense to me. If I put it on as shown in the parts diagram it doesn't seem to do anything. I know, I'm an idiot. But I would love some help. Thanks guys.

I'm not sure which spring you're referring to, do you have a diagram? I'll take a pic of mine when I get it back out shortly.

This site has some good diagrams, might help if you haven't seen them.

Thats the spring. That makes sense but I'm fighting with the tail on the bottom of the spring. So do you leave the choke open or closed before you put the spring on, and don't you have to run the nut down closer to keep the spring from flopping off? Thanks for the great pics.
