I have a 1984 Mercury 2.2hp outboard.
It runs like a champ/ starts right up. I ran it today, slow trolling while fishing for trout at idle speed. This motor is a simple design, once you start it the prop is turning at idle speed, no sifting into forward (start it and you go).
Question: At idle speed a small amount of water exits the tell tale hose. when you increase the throttle you get a steady stream. When i ran the motor (slow trolling) for an extended period I got steam out of the tell tale hose. When an increased throttle (slight) I got back to water out the tell tale hose. When i got water I could put my hand under it, pretty warm but not hot.
Is this ok? Am I running too hot at idle? how do i fix this if it is not correct?
Thanks
