1984 150 hp Johnson V6 crossflow

Ran motor last night, and noticed coils were arching, after checking found backs of coils melted? Is this from overheating? Also saw water comming from left bank water relief valve? I get good flow from indicater?? Please help!!!!!

Bass..... If those coils are actually melting, it would have been caused by overheating. Check the retaining bolts to see if they're loose. Many coils simply appear that way.... soft epoxy, etc.<br /><br />The water leakage is a common problem. Remove that thermostat cover, clean the metal surfaces, clean and reuse the diaphram if possible. Apply a slight bit of "Marpox Sealer 1000", also available under the mfg name of "Boat Armor Sealer 1000" to the outside diameter of the diaphram when re-installing it (seals it fine). Of course use a new gasket on the cover.

Joe; What would cause the arching? It's jumping from mounting bolt to coil body
