I'm considering purchasing a 1983 Tiara Pursuit with two outboards of the same year. I can't find much information on the internet regarding this boat. Are there any notorious issues with this model boat that i should be aware?

Thanks,

Re: 1983 Tiara Pursuit 2500

I have a 1987 21 pursuit and it's a nice riding boat , the only problem I have with it is there are some spots on my deck that aren't soft but they make a cracking noise. The pursuit decks have bolsa wood sandwiched by fiberglass but I've read on some forums that if they did not seal the wood to the fiberglass it could cause air bubbles and that's what I believe my deck has in it but only a few small spots. But I got the boat dirt cheap , with a great running motor. Also I have had it in all kinds of conditions and never felt uncomfortable about the structure.

So I would pay close attention to the condition of the deck/transom and also the condition of the outboards would make or break the deal IMO.

welcome to iboats.

Blake's advice is good. When buying boats that old, and hopefullycheap. you are primarily buying (a) the motors and (b) the previous owners' care and maintenance for that particular boat. By now, differences in quality and durability based on brand are eclipsed by condition. The main thing for a boat like that is that the bilge didn't hold water--such as from a plug left in while it sat unused on a trailer, and in your case, the cabin floor area as well. (Assuming the deck drains out scuppers) it's a boat made for the outdoors that does not need to be covered all the time.

I note the IL stickers so if it's been kept there, you want to look for freeze damage. But you will find spider cracks everywhere, no problem. It's the transom and structure that matters.

The big deal is in the motors. are they 1983 outboards? have you priced replacements of that horsepower? Because if you can't afford to repower, no matter how they run today, it's not the boat for you.

You might add to your post the HP so others can evaluate for you if it's powered correctly for its size and hull.

Talk to locals abuot whether that size/design works well in your waters for your intended use.

The motors are twin 200hp 1983 OMC SeaDrives. I could not afford to repower at this time. I'm really going to have to put a lot of thought into this. Thanks for the advise.

Another thing to think about is those twin V6 OMCs are very thirsty my 87' 225 Johnson burns about 13 gal an hour if I'm constantly running. So double that with those baby's

Yeah, i was wondering about that. Most of the time i would just be trolling at 2.5 mph, but I'm sure it would still be sucking down the fuel.

No offense, but Seadrives? Think parts availability. Then run away.
