1983 80HP Merc 4cyl * low voltage output?

Hello all,
I have a 1983 80HP Merc 4cyl that runs good but does not put out much charging voltage. At idle (850rpm) my volt meter reads about 12.5 volts which is about what I get from just the battery. When I get her wound up over 1500 rpm I get about 12.75 but when she gets over 3500 then I get about 13 volts maybe.
Any ideas what may be causing this low voltage output?

If your using the voltmeter on the dash, get a testmeter before doing anything and it shows the same reading test the rectifier and if it test OK and you need more output it will have to have the stator replaced
