is changing the impeller something a person should attempt that has never replaced one before? I have both the seloc manual and also the factory manual for my motor and the task doesn't look to difficult but it seems as though it could get ugly fast and the end result could be disaster(blown engine)..any thoughts, help, encouragement and/or advice welcome!

Kind of hard to ever say you have done it if you keep letting thoughts like this stop you. Everyone has a first time.

The hard part is already done, you paid for the manuals.

Read the manuals ahead of time. Mark the pages and sections for quick reference while working. Have at it. Don't be in a hurry.

Post here if troubles arise.

It's not too bad. I'm a CPA by trade, with a little help from my neighbor, who is a master mechanic, I was able to get it done. I have an 84 75HP. Read the manual, get a good look at what has to come apart then dive in. Remember to put the lower unit in neutral, pull the cotter pin from the shift linkage on the leg and take your time. Also, there is an allen bolt where the exhaust comes out. That allen bolt has to come out to drop the lower unit. It took me a while to figure that out. Also remember to hit the shaft with some emery cloth before you put it back together and take your time so you don't damage the splines.
