OK Im at a loss with this thing. Both spark plugs screwed in the motor barely wants to turn over. take out the bottom plug motor turns over great then fires up and runs. I have never seen a motor run on one cylinder. I have no spark on the bottom cylinder but great spark on the top. any info would be great.

Sounds like you have a couple of problems, no spark on lower cylinder and a electrical problem for the starter.
Check the condition of all electrical connections dealing with the starter and battery cables, make sure they are all clean and tight. Will the engine turn over properly if you use a jumper cable directly to the starter?
When you get the starter problem fixed you can check out the ign system and find out why you have no spark on the lower cylinder.
Yes, that engine will run on one cylinder.

You're asking for big probs if you're running the mtr with one spark plug out.

Ok so i went threw the wiring and replaced some rotten wires and cleaned up a lot of the grounds. Motor turns over great has 120 psi in both holes, but i still have no spark on the lower cylinder. I pulled the flywheel, everything under it was very dirty, and the base plate was loose. I cleaned it all up and tightened down the base plate. Still no spark. Im at a loss with a distributorless motor I have never worked on one, so anymore input you guys have would be great. thanks again.

physically swap both coils and see if the problem follows the coils.

Could also have a bad power pack. Go to Cdi Electronics.com for test procedures.

swapped coils no change. spark on top cylinder none on bottom. Heading to CDI to see if i can narrow it down to the power pack.

the only way is to maybe find a used one that you know is good or if someone is kindhearted enough to let you try theirs. CDI is very explicit and thorough on their website. What problems are you having with their directions?

Re: 1982 Evinrude 60hp running on one cylinder

I found a bad wire coming from the timing base plate. Got spark on both plugs, and motor was running great. Took it out to the lake over the weekend went threw the first tank of gas running great not one issue. Half way threw the second tank it started to bog out at WOT, to the point where the boat would slow to a crawl. Then it became a bear to start. Then i was taking it back to the launch to pull it and it started running great again, but by the time i got to the launch it was sputtering and bogged out to a crawl again. Any ideas on this?

Ya might have got some crud, or water, in the carbs. Pull the bowls and check the main jets behind the drain plug. That's the first thing I would do. Good luck.
