I have a aq125a and am setting the dwell on it. if i set the dwell to 62 degrees while cranking, as manual says to do it. Then when i start it up and run it at 900 rpm, the dwell is at 58 degrees. is this normal.
Other problem i have is the shifter has a lot of forward play before the throttle plate moves. But when doing it in reverse it moves the throttle right away. Not sure if there is adjustment for that or not. thanks

Dwell meters show an "average" of all the pulses, so the more RPM the more accurate they will be. It may be worth triyng to set it to be 62 when running, but the 58 degrees is most likely in tolerance and cause no running issues you could detect.

Those engines run and start much better with the dwell in the 62? or 63? range. If you set the dwell to 62? while cranking and when you started it the dwell was 58?, then set the dwell at 66? while cranking and you will have 62? when running Just Right. After you get the dwell set, readjust your timing.
I had to add 3? to the cranking dwell on my SnapOn dwell meter
