1982 40 HP Merc Drive Shaft Assembly

I have a 1982 40 HP Merc. Electric Start. Long Shaft. Ser. #6142494. I have removed the lower unit to replace the impeller. Upon disassembly and the two "seals" at the top of the drive shaft came off in the removal process. Can anyone help me reassemble them in the correct position. There is a hard plastic seal called a "seat assembly" in the service manual. There is a rubber seal called a "splined seal" in the service manual. My problem is that the positioning in the manual doesn't make much sense. It appears that the rubber seal is upside down in the diagram. Can any one tell me the correct position and orientation for these two components. Thanks.
