I have had a rumble develope in above boat, at 20 mph there is a steady rumble that increases with acceleration. leg was drained and leg oil was a creamy lite brown,( water??). I was told that it probably is the gimble bearings :( are these tough to change, I can swing a wrench but I have never worked on boats before.what can I look for to know for certain. I could not find any filings in the leg oil, but I can't say for sure. overall starting and idling of boat has caused no problem at all. H.E.L.P.

IF noisy gets louder when steering is turned hard left are right, u-joints or gimble bearing.

You probably could but I wouldn't reccomend it!!! Could cause more damage to bearings located in lower unit.

I remember on my Mercruiser 228... "gimble" would make a racket with hard right/left turn.

If you drained lower unit... Did you see any metal???

Better off refilling & testing!!!
