1982 15hp Johnson model J15RCNC (rope start)

Not well versed on magneto's & such so forgive the question but is there enough voltage from this motor anywhere while running that you could make jumper leads off of that would trickle charge a 12v battery?

Go to Shop2evinrude dot com, look up your model (or the electric start), which would be E instead of R, and look through the list of parts. You will need the ones that say "electric". Mainly the harness , charge coil and rectifier. I am perusing the same with my '78 15 hp and you can sometimes find all of the parts on Ebay.

In this article "Johnson/Evinrude 9.9 / 15 hp Converting to Electric Start 1974 - 1992", he gives detailed information about what you need. It's a bolt-on change, but there are quite a lot of parts changes. It will only put out 5 amps at 5000 rpm, so it won't recharge a battery under normal use, lower rpm.
