All,

I am replacing the clutch dog and reverse gear on my 800. Two questions:

1. Are OMC part numbers unique to themselves?

2. Both the new and old reverse gears ride loosely on the prop shaft. I would expect there to a bearing system between the prop and gear. How does the reverse stay aligned with the pinion gear and clutch dog?

Thanks.

Yes and the gears ride in bearings inside case not on propshaft. Quit beating a dead horse and buy a Mercruiser or Volvo. Your sanity will thank you. 'nutcase

nutcase, I think we're all well aware that Stringers aren't anything to write home about and more so that you personally don't like them, but despite that, some of us still have them & we'll have questions/comments about them from time to time.

I think the dead horse around here is the comments about how crappy Stringers are. We get it.

No bother. I am learning a lot from this horse. I'll appreciate a newer/better drive when I get one.

Never have I said I don't like them. They put pounds of food on the table back in the day.:) 'nutcase
