How world do I change my V-Belt without having to remove this huge motor mount? I have been reading threads that say to remove a spacer, but I do not see a spacer. This engine tilts forward and backward when you use the trim button. Has quite the mounting system. Can anyone help?! Thanks. Matt

I removed mine to change. Yes, the whole front mount/tilt unit. Its a goofy stringer drive, get used to swearing.... Used a 2" steel square tube across the engine bay, sitting on the floor of the boat, ran trim all the way down (putting front of motor UP) and attached a heavy ratchet strap to the motor... then ran trim up (letting front of motor DOWN) until strap was tight. Then remove mount/bolts, change ALL your belts at the same time, don't care if one 'looks' ok just do them all, and re assemble. Took me about 3 hours and a 6 pack.

On a fixed mount I've used a car scissor jack under the engine to lift it and move the mount for a belt change.

^^^ Did it.

I've got select trim on my I6. Did the jack trick under the front end and pulled the mounts (4 bolts into the face of the engine). Couldn't believe it - it might have taken me (Mr. Mediocre Wrench) about 10 minutes.

I believe I have read where some have put an exra belt there while the mount is undone, ready to put on for the next time. The spare just lays there inside the mount ready to go without having to go thru the gyrations.

That sounds like a great idea, especially if it broke on the water. Personally I don't carry a car jack in my tool kit!

Thank you for the replies. Where should I put the jack? Under the pan?

'n cushion it with wood,... Hope it ain't rusted up bad,...

Something across the gunnels, 'n a come-along might also be an option,...
