I bought this boat and the son said his dad had taken the gas tank off and cleaned it,well I went today and put 12 gallons of gas in it , went to the lake backed it in the water left it on the trailer, and tried to start it, ran for a second then died there was lots of water in the tank now there is lots of water in my carbs. Came home drained the tank drained the carbs changed the plugs, it runs but keep fouling the plugs. What all do I need to do to get all the water out, this is a 1981 150 mercury black max,and by the way when I bought it we started in on the muffs ran perfect but he ran it off a gas can because the tank wasnt hooked up. Looked up carb kits here on iboats but all it shows they come with is gaskets

If you have access to the fuel tank sender, you can siphon out the water and muck from under the fuel.

Agitate the craft on the trailer then jack and block the trailer such that the sender is over the lowest spot.

Give it some time for everything to settle to the low spot then remove the sender assy.

Cut a small notch accross the end of your siphon hose so that it cannot suck against the bottom and seal off.

Screw a large nut onto the hose for weight to help hold it down.

Siphon off the water and muck from under the fuel.

If the tank is EMPTY of fuel, add apint of 'fuel-Dri' or simular alcohol to absorb remaining water, give it a few minutes to work, then siphon that out also. You do NOT want to run fuel with additional alcohol added.

Reinstall the sending unit with a new gasket and check for leaks.

Install a water/fuel seperating filter to prevent any future problems, change annually.

Going to mercury directly at mercurypartsexpress.com and typing in your serial number would provide you with every assembly and exact part #s for your engine.

I would also recommend you install a fuel/water seperator.

I bought one from mercury and it works great; I only change it once per year for my maintenance schedule.

SKU: 802893T

Replacement element. Degree of filtration is 25 micron, minimum.
Used in both outboard and MerCruiser applications (except 1992 MerCruiser 4.3 L Gen II engines equipped with an in-line fuel filter & 1.6L Vazer engines).
