Guys,
This new-to-me 1981 25hp Johnson does not have any mechanism to latch the motor in the raised position. All I see is the trim pin (was missing, made one this afternoon), the lock-unlock latch (which works fine), and what I have seen in parts explosion described as a shallow water lift or some such thing. The shallow water lift presumably swings up and onto the trim pin, holding the motor at an exaggerated trim angle to give as much clearance as the keel would allow. Is that how it's supposed to be used, as an extension link to the trim pin?
What I DON'T see is any way to raise the motor up fully. Mine is a long shaft on a short transom so getting it up as high as the shallow water link allows helps but I need more lift. Especially when I use the trolling motor to get me in close to the banks. Did this motor ever have some kind lift latch? Unfortunately the on-line parts explosions don't show a view of that part of the motor.
Thanks,
Byron
