I have a 1981 Johnson 115 model #J115TLCIM. My problem is that I have no power to the gauges or starter when the key is turned on. Sometimes I will have power to the gauges when the key is junt in the on position until I try to engage the starter, I get one click then no power to anything again. I get no click from the solenoid, nothing.

I have cleaned all the connections to the starter, solenoid, battery, and main ground. I have installed a new starter, solenoid, and ingition switch. I checked and have 12 volts to solenoid, and the red wire on ignition switch. I have checked the inline fuse on the motor and even replaced it with a new one.

It was starting and running fine until a couple of weeks ago. Went to the lake and when I try to start it, the starter kicked up into the flywheel, but did not have enough power to turn it. After that I was getting no power at all when the key was turned. I can jump the starter straight from the battery and it turns with plenty of power.

I don't believe that this could be a major problem, just running out of ideas and hoping that someone can help. Starting to have withdrawal symptoms from not getting to go the lake. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you have an ammeter or a voltmeter on your boat? If you have an ammeter then all power goes by and maybe you have a loose connection there.

Sounds like you have a bad cable.

Thanks for the replies.
bigred69 was correct. I had an extra battery cable that I ran from the battery to the solenoid and the starter turned over stronger than ever. So, I started pulling the old cable out of the housing and it just pulled apart into two pieces. I don't even see how it was running before. I've had the boat for a little over a year, could have been stranded on the lake at any time. Gonna go ahead and replace the ground cable while I'm at it.
Thanks again!
