Re: 1981 evinrude 60 h.p. what will it interchange with
OMC made a few different 60 hp looper engines. The early ones used the nearly identical 50 hp 2-cyl. block. Later engines used the 3-cyl 70 hp block. Looks like yours is the 2-cyl offshoot. Possible that the 50/60 hp blocks are identical, but the 60 hp block is ported differently and runs up to 6000 rpm's-500 rpm's higher than it's smaller brother the 50. Also, probably has slightly larger carbs on the 60. Pretty much everything else is common with the 50. You can check out the exact part differences in engines from the factory exploded parts diagrams at this website: epc.brp.com I'd probably put a few drops of oil in both cyls and turn it over by hand a few rpm's prior to starting. New gas/oil in the tank. Give it a whirl. Hopefully, when it was stored, the engine was either winterized of "laid up" properly. If the old fuel was left in the carbs, it may not run/idle right till you pull them apart and clean them. Change the lower unit gearcase oil prior to running in the lake. If you don't know the history of the water pump impeller, you should probably change it. When you first fire it, check for water flow from the telltale and use a laser temp gun to measure head cyl temps to make sure the thermostat opens and it runs normal temps.
