I just bought a new-to-me 1981 Evinrude 7.5hp, model#E8RCIC, S/N E0007978. It is in terrific condition, and starts on the first pull. I am totally confused about the operation of the tilt mechanism, though. It has a "shallow water" lever near the transom mount, and a "run/tilt" lever on the lower front part of the motor. There is no pin that goes through the transom mount, where the motor would typically lock into place. I'm not sure if there's supposed to be on this motor, althogh without it the motor can tilt up on its own. Also, I'm not sure what the purpose of the "run/tilt" twist lever is. I've attached pics of how it looks right now, and would appreciate any help on how this works and whether I'm missing parts (like a tilt pin). If I am, what parts do I need to acquire?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Tom

the motor is missing its tilt pin. the run tilt "knob" on the front of the motor locks the motor in the down position via the tilt pin, so it doesnt lift itself out of the water if you gun it in reverse, and is "supposed" to release if you hit something while going forward. ( i never lock that on a small motor, as you can usually just hold the motor down by hand if its on a small boat. the shallow water drive explains itself.
