I bought the motor three years ago and never thought enough cooling water pumped through it so I replaced the impeller. One of the blades was missing but it didn't pump any more with the new impeller. It is used very little on a sailboat and I haven't had any problems until this month. The motor would quit "peeing" and only steam would come out. I would shut it down immediately and wait a few minutes then crank it up again and it would "pee" a little then steam. I did this several times until I could get back to the ramp. I really don't think anything is wrong with impeller but I will definitely replace it. It has only been run about a dozen times since replacing it. What else could cause this?

Welcome to iboats. :)

Are you sure it's a 4-stroke? Not many of those were made back in the 80s and probably only by Honda. Regardless, did you ever locate the missing vane? It could be in the cooling system blocking the flow on occasion and clear once pumping stops and water starts running backwards back out of the motor.
