I recently bought this motor, has 125 #'s compression top & bottom, water pump telltale squirting, doesn't appear to be overheating. Carb is clean, float set right, new fuel, non ethanol, tight bulb,. Runs like a champ in the test tank, idles good, accelerates good. While I can't put it under full power in forward in my test tank, it runs good in forward & reverse gear up to 2000 rpm, then water level is low in tank, blown out!
Thought it was good to go, took it to the lake, cranks, idles in neutral, slows down a bit in gear, but when you try to give it the gas, it dies. Then hard to restart. Tried pumping the bulb while running, pulling choke 1/2 way, no help. Did not have carb cleaner to spray in throat tho..
Could it be the advance linkage out of sync? Ignition coils?
Cleaned carb, bowl was full of good clean gas, carb looked squeeky clean inside & out.. Blew out all jets with carb cleaner & compressed air. Can't hear or see any intake leaks.
Need some help here in diagnosing the problem!

Have two of these motors, took carb off of one needing a clutch dog, gonna try it.
